Flowers of Spring – Politics, Power & Poverty – Electric Voice Theatre – 4 April 7 pm online
Online Concert: Tue, 4th April 2023 19:00 – 20:00 Tickets
An online dramatic concert exploring the music of Eliza Flower (1803-1846), a composer lauded by many writers and musicians including Mendelssohn, Robert Browning and John Stuart Mill. She formed a protest song partnership with Harriet Martineau, and wrote a range of works with her sister, Sarah Flower Adams, including “Nearer My God To Thee” which will be performed by ELECTRIC VOICE THEATRE singers and our VIRTUAL CHOIR.
Expect beautiful music, stirring anthems, powerful protest songs and a heart breaking story of love and scandal which may have led to this popular composer being forgotten – until now.
The music and story were developed from the generous access granted by Conway Hall to their archive in the library where the images of the 2 Flower sisters below now hang, and from the research shared by music historian, Oskar Jensen – NUAcT Fellow in Music at Newcastle University and BBC New Generation Thinker for 2022
